In this workshop we will look at the different ways to capture student data and then look to ways this can be unpacked at various levels of the organisation. We will look at the ‘trickle down ‘effect from leaders to middle leads to teachers on the floor and for students understanding how the assessment feeds into their next steps of teaching and learning.
How do you choose the right assessment tool and when do formative versus summative measures of success play into the timeframes of the hours in the day/week. In other words, how does our knowledge of and pedagogical understanding make assessment tools effective to enable growth in students and data overall.
I will take examples from Ormiston Junior College and the challenges we have had and the work we are currently doing to meet the needs of our students and families and raising our student achievement data.
Vivienne Mallabar has been at OJC from its first years, opening in 2017, and has been involved in the curriculum design and assessment across its now 10 years of operation. Her background is in primary education for most of her teaching career and she is a huge advocate of involving students in all learning and assessment opportunities. This also means the ability to unpack data and to know what they have to do to improve further.
Vivienne worked for Evaluation Associates prior to opening at OJC and this opportunity enabled her to gain further knowledge and skills about building assessment capability across a school. She is currently the president of the Primary Maths Association (PMA) and brings experience of working alongside researchers, and facilitators with a maths pedagogical and knowledge approach to again build assessment capabilities for a set curriculum perspective.
